Volunteers in Police Service
(VIPS)
draws on the time and considerable talents of civilian volunteers
and allows law enforcement professionals to better perform their
frontline duties.
Local volunteers perform non-sworn administrative
and other duties such as:
house checks for vacationing residents,
traffic control,
parades, faires and 1st Street events,
handicapped parking inforcement
crime scene preservation,
fingerprinting and
transportation of reports and evidence.
Police cannot succeed against criminals without
the active participation of community residents. Citizens who
have the time to volunteer in the community free up sworn officers
to spend more time partolling the streets.
