
![]() California's Oldest Continous Volunteer Fireighters Serving the Community since 1847 The Benicia Volunteer Firemem, Inc (a California Corporation) is a non-profit corportion that provides the general management of the Corporation. The Benicia Fire Museum also provides the volunteer firefighters to the City of Benicia Fire Department. The Benicia Volunteer Firemen, Inc. is the oldest firefighting organization in the state of California, established in 1847 by the citizen of Benicia. The Corporation is NOT part of the Benicia Fire Department. Benicia Bucket Brigade Formed 151 years ago In May 1847 the citizens of Benicia realized that the newly formed City needed to provide for an organized force of me to fight fires within the City. Thus, eight men formed the Benicia Bucket Brigade. This group of men would be the beginning of what is known today as the Benicia Volunteer Firemen, Inc. Today, this group has grown considerably and obviously includes women shoulder to shoulder with their male counterparts. |
