
![]() California's Oldest Continous Volunteer Fire Department Serving the Community since 1847 The Benicia Volunteer Firemen, Inc. (A California Corporation) is a non-profit corporation that provides the general management of the Corporation. The Benicia Fire Museum also provides volunteer firefighters to the City of Benicia Fire Department. The Benicia Volunteer Firemen, Inc, is the oldest firefighting organization in the State of California, established in 1847 by the citizens of Benicia. The Corporation is NOT part of the Benicia Fire Department. The Benicia Volunteer Firemen incorporated in 1950 with its
primary mission to provide educational opportunities to members
of the community about past, current and the future of firefighting
through the Benicia Fire Museum. In addition, the Corporation
supplements and supports the Benicia Fire Department with additional
staffing of volunteer firefighters. Benicia Bucket Brigade Formed 151 years ago In May 1847 the citizens of Benicia realized that the newly formed City needed to provide for an organized force of me to fight fires within the City. Thus, eight men formed the Benicia Bucket Brigade. This group of men would be the beginning of what is known today as the Benicia Volunteer Fire Dept. |
