PROGRAM HISTORY

The program was founded and first implemented by the San Francisco Fire Department in 1990 following the mass community effort during the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake. The Benicia Emergency Response Team program is an adoption of the San Francisco concept and one of many throughout the Bay Area.

GOAL OF THE B.E.R.T. PROGRAM

To help the citizens of Benicia to become more self-sufficient following a major disaster by developing multifunctional teams that are cross trained in basic survival skills.

You will learn basic skills that are most commonly used in disasters.

After completing this program, you will be able to function as a member of a team or as a leader of on-site volunteers.
